4 drug peddlers arrested: Police | KNO

Srinagar, Feb 10 (KNO): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police on Monday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Budgam & Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession. In Budgam, a police party of Police Station Beerwah headed by ASI Mohammad Shafi at a checkpoint established near Larbal bridge intercepted two suspicious persons, who on seeing the police party, threw a green-coloured polythene bag on the roadside and tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully. During checking the said bag, charas like substance in powdered form weighing about 575 grams was recovered. They have been identified as Rameez Ahmad Ganie son of Mohammad Ramzan Ganie resident of Hardu Lattina and Danish Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Ahad Sheikh resident of Larbal, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Both accused persons have been arrested and a case FIR No. 15/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation initiated, police said. In Handwara, a police team of Police Station Villgam at a checkpoint established at Champora Crossing intercepted 02 suspicious persons. They have been identified as Mohammed Gulzar Mir son of Gh Mohi ud din Mir resident of Amargarh Sharkoot and Faisal Ahmed Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir resident of Manzgam. During the search, 62 grams of contraband Charas-like substances was recovered from their possession, police said. Both the accused have been arrested. Accordingly, a case under relevant section of law stands registered in Police Station Villgam and investigation initiated, police added. “J&K Police remains resolute in its mission to eliminate drug-related activities in the region and safeguard the community. The general public is requested to remain vigilant and report drug peddling activities to the nearest police station, ensuring collective action against the menace of drug addiction and trafficking,” the statement reads—(KNO)
